Anaheim Summer Activities for Families

anaheim family activities

Summertime in California is the stuff of dreams (so long as you can take the heat). So while you might be running toward the beach, we’ve rounded up some fun activities for the whole family in Anaheim. From plenty of parks full of natural beauty to fun water parks and more, we’ve rounded up some of the best things to do around Anaheim this summer. So without further ado, let’s check out the best Anaheim summer activities for families.

Yorba Regional Park

If you’re looking for things to do in Anaheim, why not check out Yorba Regional Park? This day-use park covers 140 acres and is nearly a mile long. Opened in 1976, this park houses more than 400 picnic tables, shade structures, and bathrooms. Bikers and hikers can meander their way through the park, and there are even fishing and model boat sailing opportunities.

There are countless playgrounds throughout the park for families with kids, making this a great day-trip area. There are also volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, ball diamonds, and 200 barbecue locations. On top of this, bike and paddleboat rentals are available throughout the park, so you don’t have to worry about bringing your own if you want to head down the river or take to the trails.

Oak Canyon Nature Center

Oak Canyon Nature Center is a great way to excite kids about the great outdoors. This 58-acre natural park is near Anaheim Hills and features a year-round stream. With four miles of hiking trails that cut through oak woodland and coastal sage scrub, a day at Oak Canyon Nature Center lets visitors see Anaheim like they’ve never seen it before.

Each trail has a different difficulty level, allowing you to choose how far into nature you want to dive. There is also a small museum and regional natural history exhibit at the John J. Collier Interpretive Center. This is a great place for a little summer learning while school is out of session. Pearson Park Amphitheatre

Pearson Park Amphitheatre is a gorgeous installment nestled into the surrounding Anaheim outdoors. This park, built in 1927, has become a staple of families around Anaheim thanks to live shows and fantastic acoustics. The park can hold 2,000 guests, perfect for live music and events on the stage during summer nights.

As for aesthetics, this amphitheater is hard to beat. With Spanish-style architecture, column-supported arbors, terracotta roof tickles, and wisteria and bougainvillea, this location will surely surprise the senses and excite the architecturally minded members of your group. Make sure to purchase your tickets in advance since seats are limited, and this is a popular venue.

Boysen Park

Boysen Park is home to countless amenities that make this a great place to spend the day. From a baseball field and football/soccer areas to softball fields and tennis courts, there’s no shortage of fun activities to try when you visit. On top of this, several playgrounds dot the area, making this a childhood paradise. If you’re wondering which playground is our favorite, the one with the fighter jet as a piece of equipment is a clear winner.

This park covers 24.6 acres and gets its name from Rudy Boysen, the former Parks Superintendent. Thanks to the fighter jet from the Korean War, this park is best known as “Airplane Park” and is sure to launch your summer to new heights.

DiscoveryCube

With the summer sun beating down, what better way to enjoy summer than in the fully air-conditioned DiscoveryCube in Orange County? This children’s activity space is all about learning, from mobility puzzles and science to playspaces perfect for children of all ages. In addition, this location offers birthday party hosting, field trips, and summer camp, perfect for the curious child. So if you’re looking for a great way to spend summer without losing out on learning, DiscoveryCube is a great choice.

The Children’s Museum at La Habra

Located just outside Anaheim in La Habra, this Children’s Museum is a great summertime activity for children of all ages. Not only do they allow special events and birthday parties, but they host plenty of different learning opportunities for kids, making this a great way to keep your kids learning throughout the summer break.

Home to seven different exhibits, a dinosaur garden, and a historic 1942 caboose, this will surely be a childhood wonderland for your kids. One of our favorite exhibits is the carousel, a classic piece of history that brings joy to new visitors daily at this museum. Be sure to check their website for their hours and buy tickets or donate to the museum.

Pretend City Children’s Museum

Slightly outside Anaheim, the Pretend City Children’s Museum in Irvine offers a world of adventure (and air conditioning) this summer. This museum provides a unique experience for children of all ages. Laid out like an interconnected city, this is a great place for imaginations to run wild and allows children to learn how the world works in a safe, nurturing environment perfect for curious minds.

Not only does this museum offer great activities and plenty of summer events, but it also provides parents with resources on developmental milestones and more, making it an excellent resource for any parent or guardian.
