From Surf Town to Cityscape: A Full Day Exploring San Diego from Dana Point
Begin your shared adventure with a smooth departure from our central meeting point at Starbucks inside the San Clemente Outlets. Parking is available throughout the plaza, though we do not own or operate the lot — rideshare is advised.
Guests who prefer the convenience of a home, hotel, or short-term rental pickup in Dana Point or nearby cities may select the optional $10 per-person pickup upgrade at checkout.
From San Clemente, your guide leads the group south into San Diego County, following scenic coastal stretches as the landscape transitions from surf towns to seaside cliffs.
Your first stop is Mount Soledad, a peaceful memorial perched high above La Jolla. Panoramic views sweep across the coastline, the city skyline, and the surrounding mountains — the perfect way to begin your exploration.
Next, descend to La Jolla Cove, where sea lions sunbathe on boulders and waves crash against the sandstone shoreline. Stroll the waterfront path at Ellen Browning Scripps Park, check out tide pools, or simply enjoy the ocean air.
From here, the tour continues to Old Town San Diego, considered the birthplace of California. Explore preserved adobe structures, cultural museums, shaded courtyards, and artisan shops. You’ll have time for sites like Presidio Park, Heritage Park, and the famously haunted Whaley House.
Mid-day, you'll arrive at Seaport Village, a classic bayfront destination filled with boutique shops, restaurants, and harborfront walking paths. Enjoy lunch (not included), browse the shops, or take in views of the Coronado Bridge and naval ships.
After lunch, settle in for a narrated drive through the Gaslamp Quarter, home to restored Victorian buildings, the historic Gaslamp Arch, and stories of San Diego’s red-light past and modern revival.
Then it’s across the bridge to Hotel Del Coronado, the iconic Victorian beachfront resort famed for hosting presidents, authors, and Hollywood stars. Admire its architecture, shop inside, or wander the shimmering white-sand beach.
Your final major stop is Balboa Park, a breathtaking 1,200-acre cultural park. Explore gardens, historic plazas, the Botanical Building, or simply stroll its scenic pathways at your own pace.
As the day winds down, enjoy a final narrated pass through Little Italy, now one of San Diego’s premier restaurant and cultural districts.
The tour concludes with a comfortable return to San Clemente Outlets in the early evening — wrapping up a complete, relaxed, and unforgettable day in San Diego.
