Must-See Haunted Houses in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, and Temecula

a house with trees in the dark

Halloween is just around the corner, which makes it the perfect time of year to enjoy all things spooky. We’ve rounded up our favorite haunted houses in Southern California, from Los Angeles and Orange County to San Diego and Temecula. With so many options, you’re sure to find just the right spooky season haunt to scare your socks off.

Los Angeles Haunted Houses

Los Angeles Haunted Hayride
Don’t let the name of this Los Angeles haunted house fool you; there’s much more to this scare-fest than a simple hayride. Los Angeles Haunted Hayride is a fantastic spooky experience full of attractions to see and participate in. Midnight Falls Town Square is the haunted headquarters of this event, where guests can choose any spine-chilling activities to visit. You can explore a haunted mortuary, brave the Laughterhouse with its suspiciously crossed out “Slaughter,” or enjoy the once-in-an-afterlife time Monte Revolta Show. Keep in mind this haunted house takes itself quite seriously, and some events may be too intense for children under 12 years old.

Spooky Hollows
The Cult of Mr. Sticky has taken over spooky Hollows. This 15-minute sidewalk show envelops visitors in the horror of the Servants of Sticky, a group of mysterious cultists intent on awakening the mysterious Mr. Sticky. Don’t let the name fool you; this horror show has more in common with the terror of Slenderman than it does with a children’s cartoon character. Shows run every 15 minutes with a 5-minute intermission, so guests can experience the true terror of Halloween if they dare.

Halloween
Halloween is a 20,000-square-foot haunting experience you won’t soon forget. This haunted celebration is home to 9 interactive environments and a Halloween playground for all ages to enjoy. Ever wanted to ride a haunted carousel? How about wandering among 35,000 pumpkins? This family-friendly event is a must-visit Halloween experience that will leave you craving more.

Orange County Haunted Houses

Dark Harvest Haunt
What’s more classic than a haunted asylum? Dark Harvest Haunt and Pirate’s Cave come together for an adult’s only haunting experience sure to chill you to the bone. If you’ve ever wanted to wander through a haunted asylum followed by twisted doctors and murderous ghosts, you’ve come to the right place. However, remember that this haunted house experience isn’t for the faint of heart and is unsuitable for children.

The Gershon Dungeon
Experience a piece of LA infrastructure more terrifying than the traffic: The Gershon Dungeon. Follow the twisting, turning labyrinth of underground horror crafted by Queen Guinevere, a mad ruler known for throwing murderous criminals into the secret halls of The Gershon Dungeon. Can you make it out of this haunted house in one piece, or will you end up trapped by the vengeful spirit of the Queen?

The 17th Door
If you’re interested in an incredible VR haunted house experience, check out The 17th Door. This haunted house has more to offer than just augmented horror; their 50-minute field-trip experience will leave you shaking in your boots. From a haunted hospital to an abandoned prison, this is one terrifying tour.

San Diego Haunted Houses

The Haunted Trail Balboa Park
This San Diego haunted experience is a two-for-one deal with both The Haunted Trail and The eXperiment Maze. Each and every turn of this haunted experience is full of dangerous scares and spine-chilling, scream-worthy sights. Killer clowns, undead nuns, and demonic entities await you as you journey through this mind-bending haunted experience. Visitors beware: you might find yourself visiting again next year.

The Haunted Hotel
The Haunted Hotel is fully booked with terrifying guests and stars from the silver scream–sorry, screen–this year. So explore the ominous Haunted Hotel, become fear-struck by the Stars of the Silver Scream, or get blown away by the 3-D Freak-Fest. If you’re looking for a must-see haunted house, the Haunted Hotel is perfect for all kinds of terrifying, soul-scaring fun. Where else can you be chased by haunted room service or live the stuff of nightmares as Freddy Kreuger torments you?

The Scream Zone
The Scream Zone is not for the faint of heart. This haunted house is a gore-filled terror event made to get your blood pumping. The two terrifying haunts at The Scream Zone combine the most gut-churning aspects of horror. Keep in mind that this haunted house is not made for children, but there is a Scaredy Cat waiting zone for those looking to hang out and enjoy the spooky aesthetics without worrying about jump scares, body mutilation, and freaky clowns.

Temecula Haunted Houses

Mansion of Lost Souls
Once in years past, this mansion was full of life and happiness, but nothing gold can stay, especially in a haunted mansion in Temecula. The Mansion of Lost Souls is a house-wide romp through ghost-infested hallways. We hope you can resist the calls of the damned, but there’s no guarantee you’ll make it to the end of this horrifying haunted mansion.
